The Birth Of Jesus

In Room 6 we have been making silhouettes about how Jesus was born. What I enjoyed about this activity was painting the background and making the pieces to put on it. Maybe next time I could try and add more detail to my art.

The Little Wolf

W.A.L.T... Write creatively in our picture books for the younger children of our school. What I enjoyed about this activity was creating all the images for my picture book. What I found easy was coming up with the ideas of the book. What I found hard was making the story. Maybe next time I could add more detail in the story. 

Advent

W.A.L.T... Describe what Advent means to Catholics and how we celebrate it. What I enjoyed about this activity was putting everything together. What I found hard was researching  the information. What I found easy was making the slideshow and adding the information. Maybe next time I could try and add more information about Advent and how we celebrate it.

- Always wear your seat belt when the seat belt sign is on even when its off still wear it.
- In case of an emergency if an oxygen mask falls make sure you do yours first before helping others.
-  Listen to the flight attendants or Captain when there is an emergency.

Te Reo

W.A.L.T... Describe the location of classroom objects in Te Reo. In class we have been learning to identify the different types of classroom objects in Te Reo. What I enjoyed about this activity was making the images and making the video. What I found hard was trying to pronounce the words in Maori. What I found easy was creating the images and creating the video. Maybe next time I could try harder at making more pictures and pronouncing the words.

Show not Tell

W.A.L.T. Use show not tell. In Room 6 we have been learning to use show not tell. Our task was to choose a feeling and use show not tell. Can you guess which feeling I choose? What I found hard was trying to find other ways to express the feeling that I choose. What I found easy was writing out the sentences. Maybe next time I could try and add more to my sentences and add more sentences.

As I steadily walked onto the stage, I could feel my heart pounding, now it was racing, it felt like it was trying to escape my body. I didn’t know what to do. So very calmly I went to grab the microphone, and as I gently put it closer to my face I could feel the sweat dripping from my head. By now I could smell my sweat, as I casually liked my dry lips I could taste my sweat that dripped from the top of my head to my lips.

Ngatu

W.A.L.T... Write using aspects of an information report structure. Identify the significance of Ngatu in the Tongan culture. What I enjoyed about this piece of writing was researching information. What I found hard was writing it out and finishing it off. Maybe next time I could try and finish it off.

What is a Ngatu cloth? A Ngatu cloth is something that is made in many other cultures around the world. Some women from Tonga are trying to keep the tradition alive for Tonga.

What is Ngatu used for and what is it significance? Ngatu is used for many different things in Tonga. Ngatu can be used for weddings, birthdays, funerals, mats and many different occasions. The significance of Ngatu in Tonga is very important because they use Ngatu for mostly everything.

How the Ngatu is made. There are many steps to making ngatu, here is how to make it. After the hiapo is cut down girls will peel the bark from the tree, then they will hang the bark out on a line to dry in the sun. After that they soak the dry bark in water to make it soft. Then they beat the bark with a wooden tool called ike to make it thinner and wider. Then they will but the bark back out in the sun to dry again. The strips of dry flat bark are called feta’aki. Next you will lay a white cloth on top of the tabletop, the white cloth will be backing for your ngatu, once you have done that then you will have to line the ngatu along the tabletop of the backing material. Then paste the edges with of the feta’aki to the backing material. After that they cover the backing material with paste, then they carefully lay the feta’aki over the top of the backing material. Next they will press the two pieces together and slowly roll it up. Then after that they carry the ngatu outside and roll it out on the concrete so that it can dry in the sun. When it is dry they will paint the ngatu with some brown dye, using a piece of feta’aki as a brush.  This is what the finished product should look like:

Why cellphones should be banned in schools

W.A.L.T...write a persuasive text. For the past few weeks our class has been writing a persuasive text on weather cellphones should be banned from schools or not. What I found difficult was trying to figure out how to put my text together. What I enjoyed was finding facts to back up my statements. What I need to work on is my use of punctuation and try and add more facts to back up my opinion.

I strongly believe that phones should be banned from schools, as it may be a distraction for the students in the class. I think that phones are a huge distraction of our generation. They can also have an addiction to their phones, which makes this generation unable to communicate with the people around them. If we allowed phones to be used during school time, students at our school that may be using phones would highly likely to become less talkative and unsociable. This would happen because the students would spend heaps of time on their phones checking out their texts social media etc.
The first reason why I think we should ban phones from our school is because like I said in the beginning of this letter it could become a huge distraction to the children. Like what would we need them for anyways? When we have the tools at school e.g computers and the office phones.
Secondly, I hear all these people saying, “We should allow phones at school, because in case of an emergency we can call our parents so that they know we are safe” I mean yea that could be a reason, but if we allowed the phones at school and if there really was a emergency, then the phone towers would get blocked because everyone is trying to get ahold of other people, so there's really no point in taking your phone to school.

Pursuing this further if we did allow phones at our school, during a test some people could cheat and try to get answers from their phones because they are allowed to have their phones during the test.Also if something like that happened and someone caught them in the making of the incident then the teacher would have to deal with what the student has used their phone for, so then we would have less learning time because the teacher is to busy dealing with someone's bad behaviour.
Therefore this is why I strongly believe that phones should be banned from schools.

Bamboo poles

W.A.L.T... explore how different cultures produce music. In class our task was too explore how different cultures use music, but I choose to do bamboo poles which is a Filipino dance. What I found easy was making the poster. What I found hard was getting all the information. Maybe next time I could add more colour and more information to make it.

The Pirate Adventure

This week in class for writing we had to pick a key and also pick what it opens. What I found hard was my planning because I didn't really know what to write about. What I found easy was writing the story out.Maybe next time I will try and make my story more interesting.  


The Pirate Adventure

Once upon a time, there was a pirate crew that went on a voyage to find the secret key of Atlantia. The reason why they went on the voyage to find the secret key was because there was also a secret treasure chest, and that key was what would open that treasure chest.
While they were on their voyage they came across some very rough seas. And they got taken off course, but then out of the blue Aquaman (The superhero who is part fish) arrived and decided to help the crew because they were looking very lost. So Aquaman asked “ Where are you all going ?” the crew said “ We are going to find the secret key of Atlantia that will open the treasure chest, could you please help us?”. Aquaman had a very long think about it then he finally made a decision and said “yes”, the crew all said “Hooray” because they were very happy that they had another member of the crew.
After days and days of looking for the secret key of Atlantia they all said “I give up” but the captain said “We can’t give up now we are so close to finding the key” “But we’ve searched the whole entire ocean” said the crew,then Aquaman said “GUYS look I found the key!” “What how? I thought you were standing here that whole entire time while we were arguing” “Well while you guys were arguing I thought that I’d do a quick scan of the area again before we move to the next location, and then I found it” “Well thank you Aquaman and now all we need to do is find the chest!” “Hooray” shouted the crew. Since they found the key they decided to have a little rest before they set off for another voyage to find the secret treasure chest of Atlantia.
Later on that day they set sail for the next location to find the chest. After hours and hours of looking for the chest they still found nothing, but then they saw something very shiny in the sea,they all looked down to see if they could get a closer look but the closer they got the further it went. Then Aquaman said “Let me go down and get it for you” but then the captain said “I am very sorry but no let us get this one, because I don’t want us to rely on you because we need to know how to do things ourselves but thank you for your offer and for helping us get the key” then Aquaman said “ No worries then I will be off to go and help others in need” “Thank you Aquaman” said the crew.
After saying goodbye to Aquaman the captain said “I am going to go and dive in and grab the chest” so the captain went and put his swimsuit on and dived into the ocean, as the captain dived in he saw the chest and he was so happy and he was filled with excitement. As he was going in to grab the chest he couldn’t even lift it, so he went back up to the boat and said “Boys it’s time to suit up” so they all but their swimsuits on and dived in too. When they all got to the chest they all had very big smiles on their faces, and altogether they lifted up the chest and altogether they brought the box to the ship and they all hopped into the ship and opened up the treasure chest and as they opened it they were all very happy and they split the treasure against them and they all lived happily ever after altogether.

Angles


W.A.L.T. Identify and construct right, acute, and obtuse angles. Know the degree value of angles that are simple fractions of a whole turn. Know that the angle at a point is 360. What I liked about this was doing the quiz and learning about different types of angles. What I found hard was gathering information to put into this slideshow.  

Refuge activities

At the start of the term Room 6 have been reading a class novel. This is my slideshow of our class novel and every week I will be adding to this slideshow.

Babysitting Guidelines

In Room 6 we have been learning about K.O.S (Keeping Ourselves Safe) And we had to make a slideshow for babysitting guidelines. What I found easy was making the slideshow and using my prior knowledge. What I found hard was finding the information. Maybe next time I could put more information.  

Ballad

In room 6 for the past few days we've been learning about Ballad. Our task was to make our own ballads. What I found easy was making my words rhyme. What I found hard was making it short. Maybe next time I could add more figurative language to it.

My School Holidays Recount

My school holidays

The first week of the school holidays I stayed at home with my two sisters. At home we cleaned the house and after we would finish cleaning we would watch Youtube.

While me and my sisters were at home I decided to make a brownie for my whole family. I got out all the ingredients and started making the brownie then I put it into the oven. When I pulled the brownie out of the oven I let it cool down before I ate it. When I ate it I realised I did something wrong so I threw it out to the birds then made another brownie, and that was made perfectly. 

It was the last week of the school holidays my dad came back from work up in Blenheim on Tuesday 23 of April, before he came home me and my sister had to clean the house so it didn't look messy when he arrived.

When my dad arrived home me and my sisters were all excited and happy to see him. Later that night my mum came home from work, when she got inside we all started getting ready to take my dads truck back to the work site. As we were all getting in the car I asked my dad if I could go with him in his big truck, he said “okay” so I went and hopped in the truck with him and we went and took his truck back to his work site.

On the last Friday of the school holidays my mum and dad decided to take me and my sisters to the movies, they went and took us to see Avengers Infinity war. While we were waiting for the movie me and my dad went and got some lollies ice cream and some drinks from Pak n save. When we went back to the cinema area we watched all the trailers for all the new movies that were gonna be coming out.

After the movie we went for a walk around Westfield  to look at some shops, then we went and got some dinner.  When we got home we had a feed and then we put all our new clothes away that we got from the shops. 

Onomatopoeia


W.A.L.T:  Use Onomatopoeia in poetry.
I enjoyed doing this activity because I got to create my onomatopoeia. Next time I will try and add more interesting and enthusiastic words.
